The Nissan Juke Nismo Concept, revealed here at the Tokyo motor show, is a Nismo-fettled more powerful, more focused version of the compact crossover. Company sources have revealed to Autocar there is a desire to bring a production version to Europe.
“The future for Nismo is to develop premium sports designs for an ever-widening range of customers,” said Nismo boss Shoichi Miyatani. “Our forthcoming range of cars will be just as accessible and innovative as every Nissan product, but with added Nismo energy they will be even more fun to own and drive."
Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn said: “Nismo will drive creation of performance vehicles for Nissan. The Juke is creating its own market segment and is a strong starting point for Nismo. Nismo moves to a new facility close to Nissan's core research and developments operations next year and will become a centre of excellence for racing and performance models.”
Nissan is remaining coy on the exact power and performance details of the concept, but has said that the turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol unit will be retuned to give more power.
The Juke has also been lowered and stiffened by Nismo engineers. There are also new 19in alloys and larger tyres, plus a race car-inspired aerodynamic body kit. Improved handling and an increase in grip are the sum of these parts, according to Nissan.
The concept is finished in Nismo's signature pearl White colour scheme with red accents. The interior has also undergone an overhaul, with additions including a new style of steering wheel and pedals, aimed at bolstering driver appeal.
